John Malkovich will be honoured at the Munich International Film Festival due to his 'unpredictable presence'.
The 57-year-old US actor has enjoyed a hugely successful Hollywood career, appearing in classics such as Empire of the Sun, Dangerous Liaisons and In the Line of Fire.
The talented star will now be honoured with a lifetime achievement gong at Germany’s coveted Munich International Film Festival, during the CineMerit Awards.
'John Malkovich is in a class of his own. His unpredictable presence makes every one [of his films] worth seeing,' the festival’s director Andreas Strohl is quoted as saying in The Hollywood Reporter.
Georgian filmmaker Otar Iosseliani will also receive a lifetime honour. The 77-year-old’s passion for artistic freedom was praised.
'Otar Iosseliani has spent his life defending artistic expression and self-determination in cinema. He is the unsurpassed master of the melancholic comedy. We are very proud to be able to honour both of them in Munich for their extraordinary achievements,' added Andreas.
The 2011 Munich International Film Festival will run from June 24 to July 2.
