Tom Cruise is said to be in talks to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of crime novel One Shot.
The star is being considered for the role of Jack Reacher, who investigates a group murder of five office workers shot down by a sniper.
One Shot is the ninth book in the series based around the character by author Lee Child and the movie adaptation will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
One Shot will only be the filmmaker’s second movie, but he has previously worked as a screenwriter on Valkyrie – which starred Tom Cruise – and The Usual Suspects.
However, movie experts are concerned that die-hard fans of the Child books will be upset about Cruise’s casting because he doesn’t match the character’s physical appearance. In the original, Jack Reacher is described as 6ft 5in tall and weighing around 250lbs, while the Hollywood star is known for only measuring 5ft 7in in height.
However, author Lee has spoken out in support of Tom’s casting.
'Reacher’s size in the books is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way,' he said. (C) Cover Media
