Marilyn Monroe dress sells for $4.6mMarilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress has been sold to a private bidder for $4.6 million.
It was sold along with 3,500 other items as part of an auction of Hollywood memorabilia collection amassed by actress Debbie Reynolds.
The dress was worn by screen legend Marilyn in the 1955 film The Seven year Itch and has since gone on to be Marilyn’s most famous look. The scene with Marilyn coyly holding down the gown as she stands over a breezy New York City subway grate is considered one of the most iconic images in American film history.
Debbie acquired the dress when it was sold by 20th Century Fox in 1971.
Other items sold at the prestigious auction included a dress and a pair of ruby slippers worn in a screen test for The Wizard of Oz by Judy Garland, which sold together for $1.75m.
